Introducing News and Guides at Family Tree Workshop

Family Tree Workshop now separates site news from practical guides, with provider-specific GEDCOM export instructions and a clearer route to printable family trees.

You’ll now find two reading sections at Family Tree Workshop: News, where we share what’s new, and Guides, where you can find help with your family research.

What belongs in News?

News covers new features, changes to existing tools, site updates and announcements when templates become available. It is the place to see what has changed in the workshop.

When this update was first published, the spreadsheet section was still being prepared. Our free Excel and Numbers family tree workbook is now available, released on 2 November 2026.

What belongs in Guides?

Guides contains instructions you can return to when working on your research. Our GEDCOM export hub covers ten online tree services, with separate advice for each provider.

The FamilySearch guide explains why its former direct export tool should not be relied on. The Ancestry guide covers downloading an export that may arrive in a ZIP archive. The other guides explain who can download a tree, which relatives are included and where to find the file.

Where is the converter?

The GEDCOM to PDF converter remains available from the main navigation. Genealogy processing stays in your browser, and the same privacy controls apply to its supported outputs.

If a guide no longer matches a provider’s menus, contact us with the public guide URL and the changed menu labels. Please do not include your private family file.
